Chapter 1
And so, Mytho and Rue rode off into the horizon, into the story that he came from, to live happily together, forever.
Fakir's POV That was 4 years ago. I've been writing a lot since then. I've finished many of Drosselmeyer's stories, each with a beautiful ending. I still can't help Ahiru though. She's still a duck. I hate how I can help everyone else easily, but I can't help the one person that I want to help the most. Her. I want to tell her so many things, but I can't. She's just a duck.
Normal POV Fakir wrote his stories on the dock of the lake formally know as the Lake of Despair. Now it was the Lake of Hope. While they were at the lake, he would sit, notepad in hand, watching her, while she would swim in the water, carefree, but still a little sad that their friends lived far away. She had gotten over her feelings for Mytho when she realised that she only admired him and loved him as a brother. She still was oblivious, however, to Fakir's feelings for her.
Uzura suddenly disappeared one day, saying she had to talk to "Me-san." They were bewildered at her disappearence and were saddened that she never returned. Everyday they would come to the lake, hoping to find her. Today, a sun was accompanied by a light spring breeze.
Ahiru's POV Ahhh! What a beautiful day today! I wonder what we'll do? Fakir-kun is so happy! Qua- I've never noticed how handsome he looks. No wonder Pique and so many other girls liked him. I think I love him, he's been so kind..... QUA! What am I thinking?!? (A/N: Fakir wrote a little something so Ahiru could talk, but he still can't change her into a human.)
Fakir POV I'm such a moron! Why do I still love her? It's been four years! I'm twenty-one years old! She's still a duck!
FLASHBACK
"...but the ravens didn't stop attacking! Why can't I make them stop! Ahiru! Ahiru! AHIRU!!!!!" cried Fakir. In desperation, her grabbed a letter open with a ebony raven handle, and stabbed his own hand in order to stop the ravens.
NEW FLASHBACK
"The girl walked down to the deep murky bottom of the lake, to drown herself in attempt to remove the necklace that would help the prince." whispered Fakir, a steady stream of tears falling down his face and landing on the yellowed parchment. He ran outside, towards the lake, to rescue his friend.
END FLASHBACK
I was so worried about her. When she talked with her friends, when she was Princess Tutu, I was watching her, from the shadows. I remember when I got a love letter from her. I was a little excited, but when she told me that Pique and Lilie wrote it, I was.......disappointed......
FLASHBACK
"Oi." Fakir called.
"Nani?" Ahiru asked.
"Yesterday, Uzura gave this to me." he said, holding out a red love letter with pink hearts adorning the envelope.
Ahiru was turned beet red with realization and snatched the love letter out of his hands. "Tha! I didn't write it, Lilie and Pique wrote it for me! So, how do I say.." she paused, thinking. "Gomen."
He closed his eyes for a moment, slightly hurt, but quickly recovered. "Don't do such worthless stuff, moron." he said, walking off.
"As I thought....."she murmured, watching his retreating back.
END FLASHBACK
Normal POV Fakir was confused. Why did he still love her? He was now a young man, not the impetuous teen that he was two years ago. He gazed at Ahiru's duck form. He would never forget the sweet, kind girl that changed him. He would die for her. Fakir would help her in anyway he could. Even if his now experienced and controlled power to write stories a reality could not turn her back into a girl, he silently vowed to find another way to bring her back so that he could be with her.
Mytho and Rue came to visit often, once a month, staying from a week to a week and a half. They truly loved each other. It was hard for Ahiru at first, but Fakir helped her get through it.
FLASHBACK
Fakir was walking though the hall of his house when he heard soft, mournful quacks coming from Ahiru's room.
"Ahiru? Are you in here?" he called, gently knocking on the door. When he heard no answer, he turned the knob, and opened the door. The sad little duck sat on the snow white bed, her innocent yellow face showing signs of tears. She looked up.
"Hi Fakir-kun!" she greeted wtih fake cheer, hoping he wouldn't notice her sorrow.
"Moron. Don't pretend. Why are you crying, Ahiru-chan? he softly asked.
"They.....they....they're so..." she stuttered, unable to find the right words.
"Happy? Hai, they are happy. Isn't that what you wanted? Ask your heart, 'Why do I love him?' What does it say?"
She was silent for a few minutes until she finally answered. "My heart, it says, 'I....I....I don't love himthat way. I liked him because I saw his sad, beautiful face, and I wanted to make him happy. I wanted to help him so I could be with him. When I gave him my pendant, when I touched his hand, it didn't feel like the spark that I thought I would have. I felt a warmth, like a brother and sister's hug. It was not what it was supposed to be."
Fakir smiled at her, patted her head, and stood up. Just before he left the room, she called his name. "Fakir-kun?"
He stopped in midstep. "Yes?"
"Arigato, Fakir-kun." she yawned as she nuzzled close to her pillow.
END FLASHBACK
Mytho and Rue stayed good friends with Fakir and Ahiru. They went on picnics at the Lake of Hope and went shopping in the plaza of Kinkan Town. The happy couple would have set Fakir and Ahiru up on dates if it wasn't for the fact that Ahiru was only a duck.
When Ahiru and Fakir got back from the lake, Mytho and Rue were at the door of Fakir's house, patiently waiting at the doorstep.
"Ah! Mytho and Rue! Good to see you!" Fakir warmly greeted.
"Fakir and Ahiru, it's been a while, ne?" Rue said.
"Hai. You didn't come last month. Maybe we should go shopping!" Ahiru suggested.
"That's a great idea! But first, we should put some of our stuff in our rooms."
Mytho said. Rue and Fakir nodded their heads. The guys picked up the two bags and dragged them inside. When Rue and Mytho finished unpacking, they were about to leave, but Rue stopped.
"Before we go, we need to ask you something. Is it okay if we spend three weeks here? You know, we have to compensate for last month!" she said.
"Hai hai, of course! Now, let's go to the plaza!" Fakir answered.
